On 7th July 2021, at 10:00, the Batumi City Court will start hearing the case of "Batumi Riviera".
As it is known to the public, on August 20, 2019, Batumi City Council approved the Development Regulation Plan in the historical part of Batumi - on the 9.7-hectare area indicated in the project between Iakob Gogebashvili Street and the seashore. According to the plan, it becomes possible to build several multi-storey buildings in the historic part of the city.
It should be noted that after the approval of the plan, on December 24, 2019, the LEPL Technical and Construction Supervision Agency issued an order, according to which it was agreed on the architectural design of the multifunctional high-rise building "Silk Tower" and Laguna in the area between Iakob Gogebashvili Street and the beach, on which a construction permit was issued.
Examination of the case has revealed that the Development Regulation Plan has been approved, and the construction permit has been issued in gross violation of the law. The project’s impact on the environment, the boulevard, the sea, the coast, human health, the city's historical and cultural heritage and the economy is not assessed in the decision-making process. Consequently, there are such types of violations evident that should become the basis for the annulment of the construction permit.
Despite the importance of the case, the reviewing judge, Jumber Bezhanidze, scheduled the process after a year and a half of numerous written appeals.
