EKA MESKHIDZE APPEALED TO THE CHARTER AGAINST 15 MEDIA OUTLETS

Date: 27 Aug 2019

Today, Eka Meskhidze applied to the Georgian Charter of Journalistic Ethics against 15 media outlets. She believes that several media outlets disseminated inaccurate information about the decision delivered by Tbilisi City Court on 9 August 2019. The media action violated the first principle of the Charter of Journalistic Ethics.

According to the disputed media reports, the Court found Papuna Ugrekhelidze innocent and held that he did not carry out any violence or sexual harassment while he was working as the Chairman of the Public Registry. This is not true as the Court did not investigate at all whether sexual harassment occurred or not.

The Public Defender has already established that Papuna Ugrekhelidze harassed Eka Meskhidze, which constitutes discrimination on the ground of gender. The Public Defender’s decision is final and may not be appealed.

Georgian Young Lawyers' Association represents Eka Meskhidze's interests.
