“GURIA MOAMBE” EDITOR RECOGNIZED AS A VICTIM BY PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE

Date: 18 Sep 2019

Thea Ioseliani, the editor of “Guria Moambe”, who reported threats against her several days earlier, has been recognized as the victim by the Prosecutor's Office. GYLA is providing the journalist with legal assistance.

Thea Ioseliani received a threatening message via Facebook, in which the sender was threatening to kill her children. The person identified by the investigation linked the messages to the so-called "Gavrilov’s Night" which occurred on June 20 and noted that Thea Ioseliani addressed Tbilisi City Hall with a public post containing the accusations against him, which served as the motivation for the menace.

Guria Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs is conducting an investigation into the case under Article 151 (1) (threat) of the Criminal Code of Georgia. The criminal prosecution is currently underway against one person.

GYLA urges the Ministry of Internal Affairs to conduct a comprehensive and impartial investigation into the threats against the journalist within the possible shortest timeframes.
