A CASE OF SEXUAL ABUSE OF A CHILD WITH DISABILITIES HAS BEEN REFERRED TO THE UN COMMITTEE

Date: 22 Dec 2020

On December 22, 2020, the Georgian Young Lawyers' Association (GYLA) and the European Human Rights Advocacy Centre (EHRAC) individually addressed the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) of the UN. The complaint was referred to the rape of a 12-year-old child with disabilities in 2015, for which the perpetrator was not brought to justice.

The case is the first to be considered by an international body on sexual violence in Georgia and will also discuss guidelines for children and persons with disabilities.

The Georgian Young Lawyers' Association is taking proceedings with the support of USAID/PROLoG.
