The prosecutor’s office announced today that it arrested 5 former government officials for illegally obtaining recordings of private lives (sex tapes). The detainees have denied the charges against them, meaning that their innocence cannot be brought under question prior to the court's final decision.

2016 parliamentary elections will be held on October 8. In terms of election legislation there still are certain flaws and issues that require to be better regulated in order to ensure equal and fair election environment.

April 18, 2016, media reported that residential space in Batumi, Khimshiashvili street, with total 125 m², owned by Batumi Municipality, will be sold to Merab Turava, the Judge of the Constitutional Court of Georgia. According to the information, Batumi self-government will give the property of municipality to the State free of charge that will be sold to the Judge of the Constitutional Court for a symbolic price.        

March 16, 2016, Ekaterine Mishveladze was at the Prosecutor General’s Office accompanied by a lawyer. Ekaterine Mishveladze provided the Prosecutor’s Office the information concerning the fact of releasing information regarding private lives. 

On April 15, 2016, Tbilisi City Court satisfied the motions of prosecutors of Prosecutorial Oversight Division of Investigation Unit of the Chief Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia regarding imposing pre-trial detention to Sulkhan Tsuladze, one of users of Tbilisi Forum. On April 20, 2016 Tbilisi Appeal Court upheld a ruling by the Tbilisi City Court on pre-trial detention.      

We, the signatory organizations of the appeal, would like to respond to the public statements made recently by the members of the Auditorium 115 student movement regarding the possible pressure on their relatives and family members following their active participation in the students’ protests.
