On March 31, 2016, the Georgian Young Lawyers Association held the final presentation of its project. The project “Informed citizens in public service” was implemented with the financial support of the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA).
The Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association (GYLA) observed the competition for 193 vacant positions in 65 electoral districts held in December, 2015.
The Coalition provides an opinion on the process as a result of which the President of Georgia presented several candidates to fill the Supreme Court’s vacant seats. According to current legislation, President is authorized to present any candidate which meets the criteria provided in law to the Parliament. The legislation has no particular selection procedure for candidates.
On April 4, 2016, the Georgian Young Lawyers Association held a presentation of the study “Judgments in cases of femicide – 2014”.
The campaign This Affects You and its member NGOs once again condemn the recent leak of sex tapes and attempts to blackmail specific individuals and the whole society. The campaign calls on the government to take concrete steps to combat illegal surveillance and wiretapping.
As a result of legal assistance provided by GYLA’s office in Tbilisi, a natural person has been restored in his right in relation to biological reproduction. The court held discussions on the realisation of the right to reproduction between the former spouses under the circumstances when one of the spouses loses the ability for natural reproduction and needs ancillary reproduction technology implying the use of the other spouse’s gamete regardless of the refusal of the other spouse
In accordance with the Decree of the President of Georgia, Giorgi Margvelashvili, the upcoming parliamentary elections will be held on October 8, 2016. The said act of the President has already been sent to the Prime Minister for counter signature which determined that the Decree will enter into force from August 8, 2016.[f1]

We had numerously stated that current election system could not proportionally transform voter’s choice into parliamentary mandates and ensure a fair political representation. Therefore, under these circumstances a competitive and equal election system remains an important challenge for the country.
The Georgian Young Lawyers Association (GYLA) responds to news reports about possible cases of sexual harassment at workplace. Due to the high public interest, we would like to make several explanations regarding the legal aspects of sexual harassment.
