Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association (GYLA) will provide legal assistance to former shareholders of TAM Tbilaviamsheni and former partners of JSC Tbilaviamsheni, who under the sale agreement concluded in 2004, brought from the state 90% of shares of JSC TAM Tbilavbiamsheni for the equivalent of USD 67 million in Georgian laris.
Tbilisi City Hall responded to GYLA’s letter addressed to Tbilisi Mayor, dated March 21, 2013. The city hall explained that there were no violations of law involved and therefore, GYLA’s claims were groundless. The city hall finishes the letter by “reminding” to GYLA that information about legal entities can also be obtained from the public registry’s website.

In May 2012, Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association (GYLA) presented research Process of Rehabilitation Beyond Façade, most of which foused on participation of two non-profit legal entities set up by Tbilisi Government – Old City Rehabilitation and Development Fund and Tbilisi Development Fund – in the process of rehabilitation of historic parts of Tbilisi, and finances transferred to these funds for over the years.
GYLA responds to today’s incident in Batumi and expresses grave concern over actions of Valerian Telia, Head Adjara Internal Affairs Department, who abused GYLA’s employees both physically and verbally. The Interior Ministry must be acting as a champion of dignity and rights of citizens, which is why it has been set up in the first place. The foregoing actions of the police official is in conflict with Georgian legislation and his high responsibilities. In this light, physical and verbal abuse of citizens and in this particular case, employees of GYLA is completely unacceptable. Valerian Telia perpetrated these actions by stressing his official capacity and threatening to use his power against the citizens, which is in absolute conflict with his official responsibilities. It is deeply regrettable that a police official has not realized his role and legal obligations.
GYLA releases another statement in response to the incident that occurred in Batumi between employees of GYLA and Valerian Telia, Head of Adjara’s Main Department of Internal Affairs, and the developments that followed. GYLA is particularly concerned over the reports about destruction of a reliable piece of evidence – video surveillance material from the time of the incident.
Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association and Transparency International – Georgia, held presentation of trial monitoring results focused on criminal and administrative cases in city courts of Tbilisi, Batumi, Khelvachauri, Gori, Telavi and Kutaisi On April 2, 2013, at 15:00 in Courtyard Marriott Tbilisi. The trial monitoring is conducting by GYLA and TI Georgia in framework of the projects which are funded by the USAID though the JILEP project implemented by East-West Management Institute.
GYLA releases a statement in response to the official findings of MIA’s General Inspection about the incident between employees of GYLA and Valeriane Telia, a senior police officer.
MIA’s statement based on the foregoing findings accurately lays out in sequence violations and offences allegedly committed by an employee of GYLA but says nothing about physical and verbal abuse perpetrated by Valeriane Telia, and traffic violation, proved by the video footage released by MIA itself. Roin Partenadze was indeed driving under a slight influence of alcohol and violated traffic rules but clearly, this may not justify physical or verbal abuse of citizens by representatives of the authorities.
On April 3, 2012, GYLA held a presentation of the research prepared in frames of the project and entitled Right of IDPs to Adequate Housing (Legal Opinions, Key Trends in Judicial Practice).
On March 25, 2013, the bureau of the parliament of Georgia decided to review proposed amendments to the organic law of Georgia the Election Code of Georgia in expedited manner.
