The investigation of Irakli Khoperia’s case is dragged on

Today Georgian Young Lawyers`Association (GYLA) submitted a complaint in the Prosecutor’s Office of Tbilisi on behalf of Lasha Katsia to confer the status of victim on him. Submission of the complaint became necessary after the denial of victim status to Lasha Katsia by the case supervisor prosecutor. Without the status of victim Lasha Katsia loses the possibility to get to know the case materials and to be informed about the progress made in the investigation of violence committed against him. Also, he cannot benefit from the rights given to the victim by the procedural law and has only the status of witness in the case.

We Demand that Parliament and Government Take Immediate Action in Response to Tkibuli Mine Accident.

On April 18, with 77 votes to 1 Georgian Parliament approved amendments to the Organic Law on ,,Political Unions of Citizens’’, in accordance with the amendments a party will be granted with the status of qualified subject and consequently receive budgetary funding even then it will overcome the 3% threshold in the election thus if the majoritarian MP (s) submitted by the party create a parliamentary faction.

On 19 April 2018, at the community center of v.Koda IDP Settlement in Tetritskaro District, representatives of the Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association (GYLA) held a meeting with individuals affected by the August 2008 war. The meeting focused on investigation of war crimes by the International Criminal Court (ICC) launched two years ago by the ICC Office of the Prosecutor. During the meeting, GYLA representatives provided the war-affected individuals with information on the ICC, the ongoing investigation and their rights in this process.
